Silica (silicon) is required for proper integrity of the skin, ligaments, tendons, and bone. The highest concentrations of silicon in the body are found in skin and hair. As we age, skin levels of silicon decline. Research has shown that supplemental silicon can help support beautiful skin and healthier hair. In addition, research shows that silicon-deficient diets lead to depressed collagen synthesis and abnormal ligament, tendon, and bone integrity. Specifically, silicon is required by the enzyme, prolyhydroxylase, which is involved in collagen synthesis in bone, cartilage, and other connective tissues. Silicon is also believed to play a role in bone calcification as high concentrations of silicon have been found at the calcification sites of growing bones. Super Silica Complex™ provides 20 mg of natural silica from Horsetail leaf extract.
